RANAU: Using shovels and getting their hands dirty preparing farm beds, 23 civil servants and non-governmental organisation members have picked up the basics of organic farming.

The participants recently spent three days at the Environmental Action Committee's organic farming training centre in Bundu Tuhan. There they learnt compost making, soil management practices and methods to produce pesticide free vegetables and fruits.

The Environmental Action Committee (EAC) is hoping the trainees will use their newfound knowledge to educate their peers and conduct similar programmes for others.

In a news release, EAC technical adviser on organic farming, Low Siew Wah, who conducted the course, said participants were also exposed to maintenance of farm beds and ways to plant and harvest crops.

"Organic farming is part of environmental conservation.

"I showed them an alternative seeding method that replaces the use of plastic with newspapers, which are twirled around a pipe and made into paper cups to place seeds," he said. _________________________________________________
From my opinion,

WHY ORGANIC FARMING IS GOOD??
1)It is part of environmental conservation.
2)The vegetables and fruits are safely to eat without need to wash properly because they are free from pesticide.
3)It can give us a big profit in money although we know that organic farming is still new in our country.
